At LSWC, we celebrate baptism as a powerful step of faith and obedience to Jesus. Scripture teaches us that baptism is an outward expression of an inward transformation. “Peter replied, ‘Repent and be baptized, every one of you, in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins. And you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit’” (Acts 2:38).
Jesus Himself set the example by being baptized: “As soon as Jesus was baptized, he went up out of the water. At that moment heaven was opened, and he saw the Spirit of God descending like a dove and alighting on him. And a voice from heaven said, ‘This is my Son, whom I love; with him I am well pleased’” (Matthew 3:16–17).
Baptism is not what saves us — salvation comes through faith in Jesus Christ alone. But baptism is a public declaration of that faith, symbolizing the washing away of sin and the beginning of a new life in Christ. “We were therefore buried with him through baptism into death in order that, just as Christ was raised from the dead through the glory of the Father, we too may live a new life” (Romans 6:4).
